On behalf of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago and on his own behalf, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Calypso Queen of the World, Ms Mc Cartha Sandy-Lewis, Calypso Rose, for her historic and outstanding achievement in winning the “Album de Musique de Monde”, World Music Album of the Year Award at the French “Victoires de la Musique” Award ceremony held on Friday 10th February 2017 in Paris, France.
Calypso Rose’s winning album Far From Home was released last year (2016) and continues to enjoy phenomenal success both in Trinidad and Tobago and abroad. The Prime Minister acknowledged Calypso Rose’s remarkable achievement of being the first soca artiste to attain the prestigious award while noting that, “Calypso Rose has consistently delivered high quality music and entertaining performances to a wide variety of audiences during her long career. Trinidad and Tobago is justifiably proud of her latest accomplishment”.
The single Leave Me Alone from the winning album is one of the most popular songs circulating on the airwaves and played at Carnival fetes this year.
