April 3, 2016: The Member of Parliament Mr. Rushton Paray, in Collaboration with STLE President Mr. Kuarlal Rampersad presented a cheque to Lower Six Students of the Rio Claro West Secondary School on Thursday 28th April 2016 in order to have them attend the Caribbean Youth Forum 2016. The Caribbean Youth Science Forum (CYSF) is a regional event that brings together Sixth Form Science students from all over the Caribbean for a full week of educational, social and cultural activities.
MP Paray acknowledged the recent performance of Students of the Rio Claro West Secondary School in terms of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. “ We must support our Students in these areas as we seek to break the mold of “rural dna” and “agro centric development” only. We can produce scientists as well. We can produce the next generation of Space Explorers. Nothing is impossible”. The Office of the Member of Parliament will continue to work with Corporate Sponsors to ensure that our students in the Mayaro Constituency are afforded the best opportunity for success.
Joining MP Paray was President of the Society of Tribology and Lubrication Engineers Mr. Kuarlal Rampersad. Mr. Rampersad was very supportive of assisting the students with the funds required to attend the forum. He challenged the Form Four Students present at the ceremony to excel in Science and Mathematics. Rampersad surprised both Students and Administration by offering a challenge , “top your class in Math and Science and the STLE will take the best performing Science Student to the World STLE Convention in 2017, all-expenses paid.”
At CYSF, the students will participate in lectures & discussions, workshops, field trips, projects, sports and social activities and interact with scientists. The first forum was funded by the OAS and was held in 1999 when 124 students from twelve Caribbean countries participated.
