Minister of National Security meets with Ambassador of the Netherlands

Port of Spain: Trinidad and Tobago’s relations with the Kingdom of the Netherlands were further deepened today, February 14, 2020, following a courtesy call to Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago His Excellency Sándor Marnix Raphaël Varga van Kibéd en Makfalva.

Today’s meeting served to introduce the Ambassador, who assumed duties at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Trinidad and Tobago in November 2019.

Minister Young welcomed His Excellency Sándor Marnix Raphaël Varga van Kibéd en Makfalva to Trinidad and Tobago, and underscored his commitment to the advancement of bilateral security cooperation with the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome. He indicated that the meeting was an opportunity to continue the longstanding positive bilateral relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Both parties discussed the Migration Registration Process for Venezuelan Nationals in Trinidad and Tobago, which the Ambassador described as a commendable Government initiative and noted the efficient manner in which it was conducted. The Ambassador expressed his interest in cooperating with the Ministry of National Security to determine how the registration process could be used as a model in some of the Netherland’s island territories. Discussions also included matters of mutual interest with both countries committing to working together to ensure the safety and security of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider region.

Also present at the meeting were Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security Mr. Vel Lewis and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Trinidad and Tobago Mr. Cor Stouten.
