Senator the Honourable Robert Le Hunte, Minister of Public Utilities, took part in the Trinbago leg of the International Coastal Clean Up (ICC) on September 15th at Chagville Chaguaramas. The Solid Waste Management Company, SWMCOL selected this site, which was one of 29 sites that were targeted all over Trinidad and Tobago by both private and public sector institutions to demonstrate their corporate social responsibility.
The Minister has identified as one of its priorities, the passage of the Beverage Container Bill, as well as continuing public awareness of the effects of solid waste on our coastlines and marine life.
The annual beach clean-up exercise is coordinated internationally by the ICC.
Minister Le Hunte who is the line Minister for SWMCOL, was joined by his daughter Chantal Le Hunte, members of the executive and staff of SWMCOL, The Ministry of Public Utilities, the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, members of popular mas band YUMA, The International School of Port of Spain, St. Andrews Private School, Arbor Preparatory, Trimont, Rosewood just to name a few. This initiative saw a total of 350 volunteers which included 150 children under the age of fifteen. The team of volunteers collected a total of 1,638 pounds of solid waste at the Chagville Beach Facility
