August 22, 2017: The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services recently supported an Open House Information exercise hosted by the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs, which focused on creating greater awareness on retirement planning and financial investments. The Open House took place over a 2 day period - July 27 and 28, 2017 at the AGLA Tower, Government Campus Plaza, Port of Spain.
Transformed into a hub of activity, the entire 12th Floor of the AGLA Tower was abuzz as various local, regional and international financial institutions presented their full suite of financial and long-term investment options to the scores of participants. Also open to all staff of both Ministries, the initiative gave participants an opportunity to access post-retirement financial opportunities as well as psychosocial support for persons approaching retirement age.
The various financial institutions offered advice and options on how to save or bank successfully, determining one’s investment style, selecting financial investments and managing investment strategies to meet short, medium and long-term goals. Areas of internal and external health and wellness issues and solutions to deal with post retirement opportunities and possible vacation planning and travel options were also explored.
A special feature was a presentation by the Director, Division of Ageing in the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, Dr Jennifer Rouse, who presented at a group session targeting persons aged 50 and over, which explored, among other things, the facets of transitioning to retirement, as well as various psychosocial impacts of retirement.
